Here is how it all began. Kevin and Sheryl spent many years of living in the suburbs raising kids and working hard. Finding them selves as empty nesters these two crazy kids decided to move up north and buy some land. So once we left the suburbs behind and bought a house on one acre I (Sheryl) said "ok now is the time to get a couple of donkeys". Then quickly two turned to five. How could this happen you might ask. It's easy, just be around one or two or three. My love quickly blossomed and then I decided to start breeding. I took my knocks like most first time breeders and bought donkeys I should not have, got taken to the cleaners etc. but loved them anyway. Then as I became educated I knew what my goals were when buying my breeding stock. I looked for very reputable breeders that had the quality of animals I desired to breed, the kind of breeders I could trust, and were kind to their animals. I put lots of thought and research into my animals. I say "I" or "me" in most of this story because even though Kevin loves the donkeys the passion was mine and mine alone. He didn't mind helping around the barn yard with the chores as long as it didn't involve poop. Just don't ask him to tell you the donkey's names either. Once in a while they would get a pat on the head from Kevin. As the years went by we upgraded our animals which are now really nice. Now you will find Kevin out there hugging on the donkeys and talking to them, so now it is "we" in our story. Kevin can tell you the names of the donkeys now and he puts in his two cents about who we should breed and how he thinks they need cared for. In the wee morning hours when I'm in the barn helping a momma deliver her foal, who do you think is right there helping me? You got it, Kevin. He may have to get up at 5:00 AM but he is there. Not to meantion Kevin scoops his fare share of poo so let "us" continue to tell our story. After we had five donkeys and looked at our 3,300 square foot dream home sitting on this beautiful acre we couldn't help pondering “Is this what life is all about?" we decided no. Next thing we did was sell the dream home and move to the country where we could have five acres with a barn and a very modest 1,700 square foot older home. The donkeys have brought so much love and joy into our lives that the fancy house didn't matter anymore. We just wanted enough space to enjoy our little farm. Now that we are Grandma and Grandpa we find having the donkey's even more important and we want to share this experience with our Granddaughters.
Kevin and I want our farm small. We just want to have a few high quality foals each year to enjoy. This way the donkeys get the love and attention they rightly deserve and the foals end up being the loving pets our customers want and not just some donkey's out in a big herd. The people we have met along the way is another reason we love our donkeys. We have met some wonderful people. There are some very good breeders out there that we respect very much.
We produce donkeys that are under 30 inches and some that are over 30 inches. We have something for everyone. Personally We like our animals over 30 inches because for us they are more fun. You can do more things with them like pulling a cart or carrying a pack. We love our tiny tiny ones as well. How can you not love each and everyone just the way they are?
Now that you know a little about us we hope you can see that we are just plain down to earth people who love our donkeys, friends, family, and the lord. We hope we can help you make your decision about buying a miniature donkey. First of all find someone very reputable. There are many who aren't and many who are. Then ask your self these questions when buying your best friend.
Can I care for a couple of donkeys?
Can I afford the expense?
Am I committed to a long term relationship with this animal?
Am I buying this animal because it's the best fit for me.
Do I feel this animal has had a good start in life to make he or her the loving and health animal that I will have in my life for a long long time.
Can I trust this person I'm dealing with?
Does this feel like a reputable breeder to me?
Do I feel I'm being given all the information about the donkey?
Is this person breeding for the right reasons?
Is this person committed to each and every donkey they have?
Do I feel secure with my decision.
These are all important things to ask your self. Listen to your quiet voice talking to you. Most likely this will be a one time purchase and you want it right.
When you are at our farm you will notice that our donkeys come up to you wanting love and only love. They do not come because they think you have food in your pocket and then leave after fiinding nothing there We do not feed them by hand ever. If we want them to have a treat we put it in a food bowl and give it to them. Donkeys that are truly friendly come because they love you. We just really recommend not feeding by hand. Our animals are not "Live Stock" to us they are our family.
Give us a jingle anytime. We would love to help you find a donkey that will love you forever. Even if it's at another farm. We know lots of people.
